Finished fixing a Computer for my wife.
Problem : She had been playing her FaceBook games, especially “Pearl’s Peril” for quite a long while. But in the last month or so it would not load all the way, just freezing. All the suggestions on FB and the game site says to enable cookies and stop other programs from running. That advice was useless.
Now she isn’t a computer fanatic, she just wants to play her few games and keep in touch with friends and family through FaceBook.
Well, it took me a bit of time to realize it isn’t her computer’s fault or Windows 10 fault or the internet connection’s fault. The fault lies with the game developers. They pulled the plug out for further development of the game in 32Bit mode. All future pieces of Wooga Games require 64Bit processing.
That’s where the freeze up occurs. Her laptop is running 32Bit Windows 10 Home. All mine run 64Bit Windows, either Win7 or Win10 so I had no problems loading or running that game. Her brother had given her this laptop (originally bought at Best Buy) after replacing it with a newer one. This was a while back and since then it updated to Win 10.
People, do not install Windows 32Bit on a multi-processor computer! You are crippling the machine. 32Bit cannot use more than three Gigabytes of RAM, no matter how much more you install.
Her computer is a dual-core Pentium Samsung laptop. Nice laptop. I downloaded the MediaCreation Tool from Microsoft to create a new Windows 10 installation USB Flash Drive. It takes a while to download and install eight gigabytes of data. I removed her old SATA drive and put in a fresh drive. The other I hung on later to transfer or migrate her data.
Formatting and installing 64Bit Windows took about an hour. I installed her Email client and Browsers and Microsoft Office, using keys from her old drive. Restored bookmarks and passwords and everything was like it was, but better. Her laptop is not as fast as newer laptops are since she only has a dual processor; so what I did is order an SSD Hard Drive . These SSD Hard drives compensate for the relative slowness of dual-processors compared to quad-processors.
Pearl’s Peril runs nicely, but will improve quite a bit when I install the SSD drive (Crucial brand).
As a side note —— WHY did Best Buy sell my brother-in-law a crippled 32Bit computer?
